
A review of how Arsenal players performed in the Europa League on September Thursday, 14.
The Europa League is back and a couple of Nigerian players were in action on the opening day of the 2017/2018 season.
Alex Iwobi (Arsenal)
Alex Iwobi and his Arsenal teammates came from a goal down to beat FC Cologne in the opening fixture of Group H.
In the game that was delayed due to crowd troubles, Iwobi played for 64 minutes before he was substituted for Jack Wilshere. Before he was substituted, the 21-year-old who played in midfield assisted Arsenal’s second goal of the night which was scored by Alexis Sanchez.
Chuba Akpom (Arsenal)
Akpom who is yet to make an appearance for Arsenal this season was on the bench all through the game.
John Ogu (Hapoel Be’er Sheva)
Disappointed with losing out in the Champions League play-off for the second year running, John Ogu and his Hapoel Be’er Sheva teammates began their Europa League campaign with a win.
The Super Eagles midfielder the full minutes as Israeli champions Hapoel Be’er Sheva got a home 2-1 win over FC Lugano of Switzerland in Group G.
Anthony Nwakaeme (Hapoel Be’er Sheva)
Another Super Eagles player, Nwakaeme was also in action for the full 90 minutes in Hapoel Be’er Sheva win.
Peter Olayinka (Zulte-Waregeem)
Nigerian player Peter Olayinka was in action for Zulte-Waregeem in their terrible home 1-5 loss to Nice in Group K.
He, however, assisted Zulte-Waregeem’s only goal of the game.
Imoh Ezekiel (Konyaspor)
Nigeria international Imoh Ezekiel played for just 18 minutes in Konyaspor’s 1-0 loss away to French side Olympic Marseille.
Ezekiel entered the game in the 72nd but could not find the equaliser for Konyaspor in the Group I game.
