In DR Congo: 18 Burundian refugees killed by troops

Local officials in the eastern province of South Kivu on Saturday, September 16, described the incident as a provisional toll.

Eighteen Burundian refugees have been shot dead by troops in clashes at a camp in the eastern Democratic Republic of Congo.

Explaining what how it happened, the Interior ministry official, Josue Boji said troops had tried to disperse the refugees by "firing in the air but were overwhelmed" when the group responded by throwing stones.

The incident was said to have occurred on Friday, September 15.
