Update: Several iPhone X leaks have emerged over the weekend, so we know a lot more about Apple's new phone today. Here's the latest news.
Say it iPhone X or iPhone 10, this is the new iPhone for 2017, according to several iOS 11 leaks just days ahead of Apple's September 12 launch event.
It's the 10th anniversary iPhone, so the iPhone X name is fitting for all of the changes Apple will unveil at the Steve Jobs Theater at its new Cupertino campus.
The iPhone X price and release date will be announced on Tuesday, and while you may have heard it go by iPhone 8, Apple may decide to drop the number from the name.
Apple's next iPhone is due for a redesign, not just a minor refresh. What are its best features? When will it be released? We explore every rumor, leak and prediction.

iPhone X release date
The iPhone X launch event happens this week, Tuesday, September 12 at 9am Pacific Time (1pm EST, 6pm BST), which is Wednesday, September 13 in Australia at 3am AEST.
Apple will announce the new iPhone at the Steve Jobs Theater on its brand new campus in Cupertino, California – another fitting 10th anniversary tribute.
The actual iPhone X release date is expected to be in October, according to several leaks that put it behind the normal-looking iPhone 7S and iPhone 7S Plus.
These are Apple's other two phones with routine spec bumps, and they may launch as soon as Friday, September 22 and inherit the names iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus.
iPhone X price
When does it come out? Probably in October. Your next question is: how much does the iPhone X cost? Bad news. It'll be your most expensive phone ever.
The iPhone X price is expected to cost $999 (£900, AU$1,250). That's a 54% price increase in the US over the iPhone 7, which costs $650 (£599, AU$1,079).
Apple may sweeten its initial iPhone X deals with free Apple Music and 200GB of iCloud storage. Just don't expect free AirPods, as some rumors have claimed.
Also, US carriers like Verizon, AT&T and T-Mobile may charge as much as $42 a month for the iPhone X, breaking up the $1,000 payments over 24 months. Regardless, it's going to be expensive.
iPhone X features
Apple is going for big changes with the iPhone X, and we're pretty sure of this because there have been so many leaks over the last few days.
The screen is getting bigger, yet the phone will likely be smaller than the Plus. The home button you know and love has vanished and so has the aluminum casing, both to much controversy.
You're in for a world of change with the iPhone X. Let's explore the top features ahead of the September 12 Apple iPhone X live stream.
iPhone X screen
iPhone X is going to look radically different, with a 5.8-inch edge-to-edge screen that rids Apple's smartphone of ugly bezels, but also its usual home button.
It's an 'all-screen' phone that will compete with the Galaxy S8, Note 8, LG G6 and The Essential Phone. Apple is ready to take on Samsung's 'Infinity Display'.
It won't be dramatically curved, as some have speculated, but it will come with a rich AMOLED display that's great for showing deep blacks that are nearly turned off, thus saving battery life.
There will be a 'notch' at the top, but that black cutout houses the exciting new iPhone X 3D face-scanning sensors that we'll explain in a second.
iPhone X design
Don't worry – that 5.8-inch screen may seem like a big increase from the 5.5-inch iPhone 7 Plus, but the iPhone X dimensions appear to be smaller.
Leaks point to it actually fitting in between the 4.7-inch and 5.5-inch iPhone, the perfect size for most people who have Plus-sized screen envy, enjoy like the manageable size of a standard iPhone. It's the best of both worlds.
The iPhone X leaks also point to a glass design, ditching the aluminum casing that Apple has tried to perfect over the years. That means it'll be able to get rid of ugly antenna lines.
Better yet, phones that are made of glass can easily pass through electricity, enabling convenient (but often a tad slower) wireless charging. It'll be interesting to see if Apple include a wireless charger considering the high iPhone X price.
Wireless charging has been a perk something Android phones have had for years now, and it'll make its debut to Apple fans on the iPhone X.
iPhone X home button and Face ID
The iPhone X won't have a typical home button thanks to its all-screen display that takes up almost the entire front of the phone.
Instead, it'll have an on-screen button, though not even the leaks really give us an idea of what this new button will look like or how it will work.
What we do know is how Apple intends to replace Touch ID. Without a place for a fingerprint sensor, you're going to have to unlock your phone another way.
Face ID is Apple's idea for authentication and it uses 3D face-scanning sensors to accurately detect your face at any angle, according to iOS 11 beta code.
Both the lack of a physical home button and Touch ID are going to be two of the most controversial parts of the iPhone X launch event on September 12.
iPhone X camera
Multiple iPhone X leaks have shown that Apple is literally switching up the dual-lens camera in its new smartphone.
The dual-lens camera has been rotated to be vertically aligned, but we don't know if this means it'll see a big upgrade over last year's two 12MP cameras.
The iPhone X will, however, see an upgrade to Portrait Mode, the iPhone 7 Plus feature takes tightly-cropped, bokeh-rich (background blurred) portrait photos.
Apple is adding something called Portrait Lighting, according to the iOS 11 leak. It's supposed to use machine learning and the camera's depth sensing to add the best light to your portrait photos.
Lighting conditions include Contour Light, Natural Light, Stage Light, Stage Light Mono and Studio Light. Apple takes another page out of the DSLR playbook with the iPhone X.
Augmented Reality features
Apple is very bullish on augmented reality, favoring AR over VR. CEO Tim Cook mentions AR during almost every one of Apple's quarterly earnings call.
iOS 11 beta is already transforming your empty world into a virtual playground, with games that create digital objects on empty tables when you look through an iPhone or iPad. IKEA is making practical furniture measuring tools as well.
That's why we think AR is going to play a big part on the iPhone X, although any exclusive features it gets may be minimal, as older iPhones will get AR, too.
Why do we think it's the iPhone X?
iOS tinkerer Steven Troughton-Smith has claimed to have found mentions of the iPhone X within the next version of Apple's software.
Troughton-Smith tweeted that the three new handsets from Apple will be called the iPhone 8, iPhone 8 Plus and iPhone X. He believes the phone codenamed D22 will be the iPhone X, which is expected to be the most expensive and bezeless handset.
This is nearly final software for iOS but Apple may decide to change its mind before the September 12 launch date or it could even be a leftover mention to the wrong name.
On the other hand, iOS 11 isn't the first time we've heard the name iPhone X used...
X marks the box
The latest evidence of the iPhone X has appeared in the form of a retail box with the new name emblazoned on the side. It's apparently from Dutch telecom provider KPN, and was accidentally sent to LetsGoDigital.
The image below has since been removed by the source website upon request, but as this is the internet we've still got a look at the reported iPhone X box below.
Something is a little strange about this story as the box has since been pulled, but the site originally reported it was sent by a marketing agency ready for an advertorial piece.
Apple releasing this kind of image early before the event is unprecedented and is a strange leak.
This comes as extra fuel for the iPhone X flames as we've already seen the name before as Twitter leaker Evan Blass believes it'll be called this rather than the iPhone 8.
Blass hasn't shared anymore details on what he thinks the iPhone X will eventually be called though.
What's in a name?
The name iPhone X does make sense considering Apple is celebrating the tenth anniversary of the original iPhone this year, but it's also not very like Apple to use letters without numbers.
iPhone Edition is another name we've heard rumored for the next phone from Apple, which would make more sense as the company has previously stocked a product called the Apple Watch Edition.
We won't know the official name for the new phones until next week at the event on September 12, where we also expect to see the iPhone 7S, iPhone 7S Plus, Apple Watch 3 and perhaps even a 4K Apple TV.
