Buhari: President campaigns for Nwoye during Anambra visit

President Muhammadu Buhari

The president attended the grand finale of the APC's campaign for the November 18 election.

President Muhammadu Buhari campaigned for the flag bearer of the All Progressives' Congress (APC) in the Anambra gubernatorial election, Tony Nwoye, during his visit to the southeastern state on Wednesday, November 15, 2017.

As part of his maiden two-day visit to the region, the president arrived in Anambra on Wednesday, and was in attendance at the Alex Ekwueme Square in Awka for the grand finale of the party's campaign for the November 18 election.

The president's Personal Assistant on New Media, Bashir Ahmad, disclosed this on his Twitter account (@BashirAhmaad), when he posted, "President Muhammadu Buhari arrives Alex Ekwueme Square, Awka for Grand Finale of the APC Governorship Campaign in Anambra State."

The president arrived at the Akanu Ibiam International Airport in Enugu State yesterday before he proceeded to Ebonyi State where he pledged that his administration will urgently address the infrastructural challenges confronting the region that's recently shown discontent towards him in the past few months.

While speaking in Abakaliki on Tuesday, the president said the unity of the country is important and hailed the impact of the Igbo in the economic development of Nigeria.

He said, "My presence here today is a demonstration of our strong belief in the unity of Nigeria. As the most populous country in Africa, with over 300 ethnic groups, our diversity is almost unique among nations.

"The people of the South East are known for their ingenuity, industrial and commercial talent. There is no part of Nigeria where you will not find Igbo entrepreneurs, both men and women, contributing to the development of their adopted communities.

"So I am asking you all not to buy into the senseless propaganda on secession. Igbo is Nigeria and Nigeria is Igbo. Both are inseparable.

"We must therefore continue to commit ourselves to the development of Nigeria. A Nigeria where we sustain our national unity without compromising on our cultural identities. A Nigeria where the aspirations of its people is guaranteed without prejudice to tribe or religion. A Nigeria, where we can sleep at night knowing that tomorrow will be better than today."
