Sin: How to avoid deadly temptations

Resisting sin is easy with these seven Bible verses.

Isaiah 59:2 says, “ But your iniquities have made a separation between you and your God, And your sins have hidden His face from you so that He does not hear.”

Basically, this means sin takes us away from our Heavenly Father, which is why it is important that we do our very best to abstain from it.

The following Bible verses tell us how to resist sin. They also encourage us to learn to ask for forgiveness when we do sin.

Here they are:

Ephesians 4:20–24

"That, however, is not the way of life you learned when you heard about Christ and were taught in him in accordance with the truth that is in Jesus.

You were taught, with regard to your former way of life, to put off your old self, which is being corrupted by its deceitful desires; to be made new in the attitude of your minds; and to put on the new self, created to be like God in true righteousness and holiness."

James 4:7–8

"Submit yourselves, then, to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you. Come near to God and he will come near to you. Wash your hands, you sinners, and purify your hearts, you double-minded."

 

Acts 3:19

"Repent therefore and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out, so that times of refreshing may come from the presence of the Lord."

Proverbs 28:13–14

 "Whoever conceals their sins does not prosper, but the one who confesses and renounces them finds mercy.  Blessed is the one who always trembles before God,  but whoever hardens their heart falls into trouble."

Psalm 1:1–3

"Blessed is the one who does not walk in step with the wicked or stand in the way that sinners take or sit in the company of mockers, but whose delight is in the law of the Lord, and who meditates on his law day and night.

That person is like a tree planted by streams of water,  which yields its fruit in season and whose leaf does not wither- whatever they do prospers."

Isaiah 55:7–9

"Let the wicked forsake their ways and the unrighteous their thoughts. Let them turn to the Lord, and he will have mercy on them, and to our God, for he will freely pardon.

 “For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways,” declares the Lord. “As the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts."

 

Romans 12:1–2

"Therefore, I urge you, brothers and sisters, in view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God-this is your true and proper worship.

"Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is-his good, pleasing and perfect will."
